It is not a one size fits all. It got Randall thinking about a conversation he had recently around this question: RPL or study for a qualification?

It all depends on the best option for you. Sometimes that’s study, and sometimes its Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Learning by doing is just as (and some would argue more) valuable as sitting in a classroom.
So, if you already have the skills and knowledge through your career experience there is no need to study what you already know and can do.

A conversation…
I want to share a conversation I had with one of our clients who just called up to say…
“I’m studying with another provider. I’m not enjoying the course and I’d like to exit from the program because I think that Recognition of Prior Learning is a better outcome for me”.
The provider they’re studying with has been trying to avoid this conversation and has come back and said:
“I’m sorry, we can’t help you because we don’t have a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) kit developed for this course yet, come back to us in a couple of months”.
It’s not the answer that the client wanted to hear.
She contacted Churchill Education
We had a phone conversation, shared her background experience, I confirmed that Recognition of Prior Learning was the better pathway to assist her in obtaining the qualification that she required.
We then discussed what’s required to gather workplace examples for the particular qualification – BSB50320 Diploma of Human Resource Management.
We talked about workplace examples, and how she could gather that and provide it to us.
We talked about going through the free Recognition of Prior Learning assessment, so that she could decide for herself
whether RPL was the right fit for her.
And we talked about reaching back out to the provider that she’s with and talking to them about getting a Statement of Attainment.
You see, she has already completed a number of units through study, so she might be able to use credit transfer based on those prior units which she has completed.
I shared with her that there is no cost for the assessment, and that if she decides to go with RPL instead of study, that we can talk about taking the next step after that.
