USI – What is it? Life, and especially education, can feel full of acronyms. But this is a pretty important one. USI stands for Unique Student Identifier. It is an online record of all your VET training since 2015.
Here is a quick guide with answers to the most frequently asked USI questions we receive.
But what actually is a USI?
A USI is a life-long education number, creating an online record of your nationally accredited training attainments within Australia. This ten character combination of letters and numbers reflects your hard work, your knowledge and your life experience.
But why should you care about a USI?
Well, through your USI you can access your authenticated VET transcript. This transcript is a collation of your training (since 1 January 2015) into a single record.
With this record, you can verify your qualifications to employers, potential employers and other bodies; and demonstrate prerequisites and assumed knowledge for further training and RPL.
Your USI transcript has the same status as qualification certificates.
Why isn’t my recent qualification showing on my USI transcript?
Training data used in your VET transcript is updated quarterly.
However, it’s important to note that the information in your transcript comes from data provided by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) who provided your training or RPL.
Most government funded providers report every three months, whereas most privately funded providers report once a year.
It took years of experience to achieve your qualification, but it shouldn’t take years for your USI transcript to be updated. Here at Churchill Education we report quarterly so that new qualifications show up on your USI transcript as soon as possible.
Can I share my USI with others to access?
Absolutely – it’s your USI! Our Alumni have often granted Churchill Education access to their USI records to help streamline their Qualification Appraisal.
Here you will find detailed instructions on granting Churchill Education or any other entity access to your academic records.
I don’t know my USI, what can I do?
Don’t worry – it’s pretty common to not know your USI. Thankfully – it’s easy to locate, just jump on over to here and fill out a few details, you’ll have it in no time!
So, I don’t have a USI?
No worries – once again, easy fix. If you haven’t studied since 2015, then you won’t have a USI. Just click on this link, fill in some details and you’ll have your very own unique student identifier!
Alternatively, you can give us permission to do this for you during the enrolment process. It all starts with a free appraisal!
My qualification is from before 2015, what do I do?
A USI was not issued or required prior to 1 January 2015, therefore any VET qualifications or statement of attainments before that time won’t appear on your USI transcript. Your physical certificate, academic transcript or statement of attainment reigns supreme here. If you need to verify this qualification for employment, reach out to the issuing registered training organisation (RTO).
I’m an employer, how can I verify others’ qualification/s?
With the person’s written consent, you can contact their issuing RTO and request to verify their qualification/s.
We’re more than happy to verify any of our student’s hard earned qualifications!
How can I turn my skills and experience into qualifications on my VET transcript?
We’re glad you asked! This is exactly what we do here at Churchill Education. Through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) we turn your career experience into national qualifications that we have on our scope. You can view our available qualifications here.
Curious to know what you’re eligible for? You can apply for a FREE RPL appraisal here.
